April 9 (more details coming)

Happy Bday Brittany!!! Brittany turned 16 today and we decided to go to Georgetown Cupcakes (DC Cupcakes of TLC fame)....fabulously, we found parking for free when we pulled into a school parking lot to turn around.....the school is on break this week and they agreed to let us park in their lot for the afternoon, YAHOO!!  This is a bonus...free parking for an RV in Georgetown.....absolutely unheard of!!  You have no idea how hard it is to find parking for an RV anywhere, let alone in a crowded urban city....we walked down to Georgetown Cupcakes and waited to get in line to enter....yes, there was a line!!

Here’s the order:

Mommy:  Vanilla with cream cheese frosting

Maddie:  Toffee

Christian:  Cookies and Crème

Gracie:  Cookies and Crème

The cupcakes were YUMMY!!  We watched them decorate cupcakes through the window....the cupcake decorators’ frost with expediency!!  Leaving there we ventured down towards the Potomac and walked towards the Kennedy Center, on our way we came across the Watergate building (famous for the breakin and coverup during Nixon's presidency).  At the Kennedy Center, we took a tour and looked out over the monuments from the top floor of the building.  What a beautiful view....we could see almost the entire city including the mall area but mostly the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.  I got bad news from Will at Congressman Mike Thompson’s office while we were on the tour.  He was unable to get us the tour of the White House and I was flat out mad, since I signed up more than 6 months in advance....Well, what a disappointment for us!!  I did all that I could to get it set up and it was totally out of my control. I had to work hard not to stay angry about it.  I have to keep it in perspective...we are extremely blessed to be here and see all that we will see.  We will go to the White House Visitor Center instead.  We finished the tour at Kennedy Center (a lovely theater building) and decided to walk to the Mall to look at the monuments....Dave talked the theater staff into letting us park the RV in the bus lot for free so he left to get the RV from Georgetown and he met up with us a little later....As we walked along the Potomac, we looked at the river and bridge that goes out to Arlington....at the end of the walkway, there are large gold statues that were gifts from Italy...directly across is the Lincoln Memorial....as we approached the steps leading up to this hallowed statue, it felt surreal to be here (finally)...it began to rain and we sprinted up the marble steps to reach the top and duck inside.....this is hallowed ground....just think I have stood on the same steps as many presidents, Martin Luther King, many other famous people and possibly, Forrest Gump!!  Hahahahaha.........We gazed at the statue of Lincoln and took in the walls opposite with his famous words on them....He was a great man!!  One disappointment was to look out over the mall and seeing massive construction projects and the reflecting pond wthat as empty and full of just dirt.  In any event, the other parts were still beautiful!  We loved being at the Mall, although we still didn’t have enough time to see it all.  We walked down past the Washington Monument and up to 1600 Pennslyvania to see the South Lawn and the remnants of the Easter Egg Roll.  We will meet Chad and Kim at the White House Visitor Center tomorrow.

Even though  it is the cherry blossom festival, there are no blossoms...it was too warm and rainy last week....what are you going to do???  The pictures of them are very pretty!!
